What is ACEC 2008?

The Australian Computers in Education Conference 2008 (ACEC'08) is the biennial conference of the Australian Council for Computers in Education (ACCE). The ACEC conference is hosted by the Computer Education Group of a member state or territory after a bidding process. The Computer Education Group of the Australian Capital Territory (CEGACT) in partnershipwith ACT Catholic and Independent Teacher Librarians Network (CITL) arehosting ACEC'08.

Theconference will be held at the National Convention Centre on 29 September to 2 October 2008 in Canberra, ACT, Australia. This coincides with term holidays in the majority of Australian States and Territories.

The theme for ACEC'08 is ACT on IcT, encouraging delegates to come to the National Capital to explore the way ICT is used within both education and the workplace. This conference will continue the high standard set at ACEC 2006, providing time for reflection, networking and learning for the professional communities of ACCE and partner organisations.

  • Be a strategic, pivotal point in the professional lives of its delegates where they have opportunities to reflect on the past, gather knowledge of current initiatives and plan their journey though future scenarios.
  • Provide a meeting place for the leaders of ICTs in Learning from Australia and other nations, so the synergy of their shared wisdom reinvigorates the energy and vision of the leadership.
  • To celebrate and learn about learning and teaching with ICTs, from excellent teachers in schools, TAFE Colleges and Universities.
  • Celebrate the achievements in non-metropolitan areas and in Indigenous schools and communities.
  • Encourage international colleagues to contribute to the knowledge of Australian ICT leaders.
  • Provide a platform for scholars and researchers to share their work.
  • Provide the venue for non-profit associations and other professional groups to work together to improve curriculum reform, the use of ICTs in learning and professional learning.
  • Provide the venue for the industry sector to meet their clients.

It will focus on:

  • Student excellence and ICT innovation in schools
  • The impact of ICTs on Indigenous Education
  • Realising the potential of emerging ICT leadership
  • Celebrating the potential of educational partnerships
  • Voices for ICT leadership
  • Thinking about future scenarios

Conference themes will include:

The conference will be conducted through:

  • Pre-conference workshops to continue the learning of expert groups and for indepth professional learning
  • International and national keynotes
  • Refereed papers sharing research, scholarly work and good ideas
  • Non-refereed papers and stories from the classroom
  • Posters showing work in progress and student work and showcasing the achievements of schools, organisations and teachers
  • Field trips to view ICT in use at some of the Nations Cultural Icons
  • Panels and forums to provoke discussion and to share multiple views
  • Trade and product demonstrations
  • Trade exhibitions
