The Australian Computers in Education Conferences are the premier biennial events of the Australian Council for Computers in Education. These national conferences have been becoming increasingly international in flavour and increasingly strategic in the national ICTs in Learning agenda.
ACCE enables state member associations to bid for the right to host the conference. The 2006 bid was won by the Queensland Society for Information Technology in Education (QSITE). QSITE provided the Far North Queensland Chapter of QSITE with the rights to host the conference in Cairns.
QSITE, through the Far North Quensland Chapter, negotiates all conference agreements on behalf of ACCE.
ACCE is the national federation of state computer education groups and professional societies. The members of ACCE are the state and territory computer education groups and the Australian Computer Society. Educators are not members of ACCE. They are members of their state or territory associations. ACCE reaches over 5000 educators through its state and territory associations.
ACCE is affiliated with the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP).
The Board of ACCE consists of an elected President, a representive from each of the state and territory groups, as well as a representative of the ACS. The immediate past president is an ex-officio member of the Board.
The Queensland Society for Information Technology in Education
is the computer education group which serves the needs of Queenland:
- teachers using ICTs within the curriclum
- computer studies teachers
- network managers
- ICT coordinators
- ICT academics
- TAFE and other training providers
- commercial groups involved in supporting the use of ICTs in educational institutions and programs.
is a state wide organisation with regional chapters. This structure extends the reach of the association to all corners of the state. The chapter structure in Queensland is very strong, with vibrant managment commitees being independently able to host local professional development events. In Queensland, QSITE
hosts a conference in the south-east corner of the state one year and chapters in turn host the state conference in the alternate year.
In 2006, the Far North Queensland Chapter of QSITE based in Cairns, will host the biennial national Australain Computers in Education Conference conference as well as the QSITE state conference. This enables ACEC 2006 to simultaneously be a great state, national and international event.
About the Far Northern Chapter of QSITE
The Far North Queensland Chapter of QSITE has been established for approximately 10 years and has hosted several major conferences, research projects and professional learning events. The management team for the ACEC 2006 is drawn predominantly from the local chapter with support from the QSITE management team.
The Far North Queensland Chapter is a vibrant one and has management team members with experience in conducting local, state and national conferences. The conference volunteers' register is growing steadily and we certainly can expect a very warm and friendly conference with many volunteer helpers assisting from now until 2006. The conference promotional material is already prominent in schools throughout North Queensland.
The strong local commitment is well supported by the Boards of QSITE and ACCE.
